Once again, Shetland has excelled at the esteemed Sea
Fish Industry Authority’s Seafood Awards ceremony, with Shetland Seafish
winning the hotly contested best new seafood product - shellfish category for
its Shetland oak roasted mussels.
The prestigious ceremony held last night (Thursday 22 March) at the London Marriott
Hotel Grosvenor Square was attended by Shetland Seafish’s managing director
John Tait, development manager Alasdair MacPherson, and sales executive Irene
Tait.
The Seafood Awards recognise excellence within the industry and Shetland Seafish’s
accolade acknowledges the company’s commitment to innovation and its forward
thinking approach to new business development. The judges selected Shetland
Seafish’s Oak Roasted Mussels over Marks & Spencer’s Orkney
Crab Gratins and The Big Prawn Company’s Tiger Prawns with a Sweet Chilli
Dip. Both of which had also impressed the judges, resulting in them being selected
as highly commended and commended respectively.
Following the presentation by Radio Scotland presenter and comedian, Fred McAulay,
Alasdair MacPherson said: “We are delighted to receive this award, which
is testament to the quality of the product and the hard work and initiative
shown by our team.
“The judges were impressed with the format and taste of our product, which
they feel takes mussels into new markets and onto a new level.
“The company has gone through a period of change that has seen it move
from supplying primarily wholesale seafood product to producing a wide range
of seafood and value added specialities.
“These changes highlight our new proactive approach to adapting to meet
customer demands. We look forward to continuing to work in this way to ensure
a successful future for the company.”
